The Stanley STNSTHT51304 is a 20 oz smooth-face rip claw hammer with a fiberglass handle.

Smooth face is the specification and it is the counterpart to the milled face, which is a decision about what the hammer is allowed to leave behind.

A milled face has a waffle pattern that grips the nail head. It stops the hammer glancing off, which lets a framer drive a nail in fewer blows — and it stamps a waffle mark into the timber. That is fine on structure that gets covered.

A smooth face does not mark. Miss the nail and you get a dent rather than a waffle print, and on anything that will be seen that is the difference between a repair and a disaster. Trim, cabinetry, finish work, and any exposed surface need smooth.
