Sellstrom JKSS36040 380 Series Replacement Window Sta-Clear Anti-Fog

The Sellstrom JKSS36040 is a 380 Series replacement window — clear lens, 6-1/2 x 19-1/2 x 0.040 inch, with Sta-Clear anti-fog coating.

The width is the specification that stands out: 19-1/2 inches, against the 15-1/2 inch windows common elsewhere. That is four extra inches of wrap, and it goes to the sides of the face. Peripheral coverage matters because hazards do not always arrive from straight ahead — a fragment off a grinding wheel, a splash from a neighbouring bench, a chip deflecting off a fixture. A narrow shield leaves the temples and cheeks exposed.

The height of 6-1/2 inches is correspondingly shorter, which is the trade: this is a wide, shallow window rather than a tall one. Splash work, where liquid runs down, wants the taller shields.

The Sta-Clear anti-fog coating keeps the window usable, and that is a safety function rather than a comfort one — a fogged shield gets lifted, and a lifted shield protects nothing.

The coating is a surface treatment and abrasive cleaning destroys it. Rinse and blot; do not wipe dry with a shop rag.

The 0.040 inch thickness is the lighter gauge — less weight for all-day wear, less impact resistance than 0.060.
