The Relton RELPNT-AF is AIR-FLO air tool oil for piston-driven and rotary air tools, with superior oxidation stability, 1 pint bottle, 1 each and 12 per case.

The pint bottle is the point-of-use size, and air tool oil is a point-of-use product more than most.

An air tool needs a few drops in the inlet before each use, or at the start of each shift, and the person doing it is holding the tool. A gallon jug does not go in a toolbox or a service van, so the tool goes unlubricated — which is a slow, invisible, expensive failure.

The reason it matters is what compressed air does inside a tool. Compressing air raises its moisture concentration, and the moment it expands through the motor it cools and that water condenses inside. So the lubricant is permanently in the presence of water, heat, and air — the exact conditions that oxidise oil. Oxidised oil forms varnish, varnish glues the vanes into their slots, and a rotary tool with stuck vanes loses power and dies.

Oxidation stability is what resists that, and displacing the water rather than emulsifying with it is the other half.

The rule that bears repeating: motor oil is not air tool oil. It is too heavy and its detergents hold water in suspension rather than shedding it.
