Relton REL15-SK Kut Thread Cutting Oil Lubricating stick wax 15 oz stick

The Relton REL15-SK is STICK-KUT thread cutting oil, a lubricating stick wax for grinding wheels, sanding belts and saw blades, 15 oz stick, 1 each and 12 per case.

Note the naming: the source calls this a thread cutting oil, and the stated applications — grinding wheels, sanding belts, saw blades — are not threading. It is a stick lubricant. Worth correcting, because it is filed under the wrong category and the customer who needs it will not find it.

What a stick lubricant does is prevent loading. When a grinding wheel or an abrasive belt cuts soft metal — aluminium especially, but also brass and mild steel — the swarf welds into the spaces between the abrasive grains. The wheel fills up, stops cutting, and starts rubbing. Rubbing generates heat rather than chips, which loads it further and burns the work. A loaded wheel is useless and it will not clean itself.

A wax stick applied to the running wheel fills those spaces first, so the swarf does not stick. The wheel keeps cutting and it stays cool.

On a saw blade the same principle prevents gullet packing and reduces friction.

A wax stick is the correct form because liquid on a spinning wheel is thrown off before it does anything.

Applications include grinding aluminium, belt sanding, and sawing.
