The Rectorseal RRS31551 is RectorSeal Tru-Blu pipe thread sealant, blue, 8 oz.

The 8 oz can is the van size and it strikes the right balance for most trades: enough to last a season of fittings, small enough to be consumed before it skins over in the lid.

Blue identifies the Tru-Blu formulation — distinct from No. 5 in yellow and T Plus in white. Verify approved services against Rectorseal's data; the grades have different certifications and the differences matter on gas and potable water.

The application detail that separates a joint that seals from one that comes back: male thread only, and start a thread or two back from the end. Sealant on the leading threads has nowhere to go when the joint is made except into the bore, and from there it travels downstream to whatever cannot tolerate it — a valve seat, a solenoid, an orifice. That fault gets blamed on a component rather than on the fitter.

A sealant is not a threadlocker. It fills the helical gap between the thread flanks that a tapered thread leaves open by geometry. It adds no strength.

And it does not rescue a bad thread. A sealant fills microscopic gaps, not a cut thread that is torn, tapered wrong, or too shallow.
