The Gorilla Glue GOR5000408 is Original Gorilla Glue, an all-purpose adhesive in a 4 oz bottle.

Original Gorilla Glue is a water-activated polyurethane, and that chemistry is the reason it behaves unlike any other glue on the shelf. It cures by reacting with moisture, and as it cures it expands roughly three times into the materials it is bonding — driving itself into the pores and grain of the substrate to form a mechanical bond rather than only a surface one. That is where the strength comes from.

The chemistry dictates the technique, and this is the part people get wrong. One surface must be lightly dampened — not saturated — before the glue goes onto the dry surface. Without moisture the polyurethane does not cure properly. For dense hardwoods, dampen both surfaces. Apply thinly, because the expansion means a little goes a long way, and over-application produces foam squeeze-out that has to be cleaned off.

The joint must be clamped for 1 to 2 hours, with full cure at 24 hours. The expansion generates pressure, and an unclamped joint will be pushed apart by the glue itself.

It is 100% waterproof, bonds wood, stone, metal, ceramic, foam, glass and concrete, and is paintable, stainable, and solvent free.

Roughen shiny surfaces such as metal and glass first. Expect around a year of shelf life; wipe the nozzle and cap tightly after use.
