The Rectorseal RRS25431 is RectorSeal No. 5 brush top pipe thread sealant, yellow, 16 oz.

RectorSeal No. 5 is one of the most recognised names in pipe sealants and the yellow is not decorative — it identifies the grade, and in this range colour is how the formulations are told apart: No. 5 is yellow, T Plus is white, Tru-Blu is blue. Different chemistry, different approved services.

The brush top is a real feature rather than packaging. A sealant applied with whatever is to hand goes on unevenly, gets on the outside of the fitting, and ends up on the threads that should stay clean. A brush in the lid puts a controlled film on the male thread, which is where it belongs.

The application rule that follows: male thread only, starting a thread or two back from the end. Sealant on the leading threads is pushed into the bore when the joint is made, and it travels downstream to the valve seats and orifices that cannot tolerate it.

What a sealant does is fill the helical gap between thread flanks. A tapered thread wedges and makes mechanical contact, and the spiral path between the flanks is still a leak path. It always is.
