Rectorseal RRS23551 T Plus 8 Oz. White Pipe Thread Sealant with PTFE

The Rectorseal RRS23551 is T Plus pipe thread sealant with PTFE, white, 8 oz.

At 8 oz this is the middle size in the T Plus range and it suits a service van or a toolbox rather than a shop bench.

Container size matters more with sealants than it looks, and for a reason people learn the hard way: opened sealant does not last forever. A can opened, used twice, and left in a truck for two years develops a skin, thickens, and stops brushing cleanly. Buying the 16 oz can to save money and throwing half of it away is not a saving. Match the container to the consumption.

What T Plus does is seal a tapered thread. That is worth being precise about, because a tapered pipe thread does not seal on its own — the taper wedges and it makes mechanical contact, but the helical path between the flanks is a leak path, and it always is. The sealant fills it.

The PTFE gives lubricity, which makes the joint assemble smoothly and reach proper engagement without galling.

The case against tape is that it shreds, and the fragments foul valves and orifices downstream. A paste has nothing to shed.

Verify the approved services — gas, potable water, and oxygen each have specific requirements — against Rectorseal's data.
