The Rectorseal RRS23431 is T Plus pipe thread sealant with PTFE, white, 16 oz.

The case for a paste sealant over PTFE tape is the reason this whole category exists, and it comes down to what happens to the tape.

Tape shreds. Wrapping it stretches and tears it, and every fragment that breaks loose goes downstream — into valve seats, into orifices, into control components and solenoids. The joint seals perfectly and something three fittings away stops working, and tracing the fault takes a day. Anyone who has pulled a shredded PTFE ribbon out of a stuck valve does not use tape on control systems again.

A paste has nothing to shred.

Tape has a second problem: it is slippery. It lubricates the thread enough that over-tightening happens easily, and over-tightening a tapered thread is what splits a female fitting — sometimes immediately, sometimes weeks later.

The PTFE in this paste supplies the lubricity that makes assembly smooth, without the ribbon.

White is the colour and colour across the Rectorseal range denotes grade rather than appearance: T Plus white, No. 5 yellow, and Tru-Blu blue are different formulations for different service.
