Optrel OPT5000.580 External Front Cover Lens Polycarbonate

The Optrel OPT5000.580 is an external front cover lens, polycarbonate, 5 per pack.

The outer cover lens is the cheapest insurance in welding and the most reliably skipped.

Behind it sits an auto-darkening cartridge that costs many times what a five-pack of lenses does. In front of it is spatter, sparks, and grinding debris. Every one of those impacts either pits the cover lens or pits the cartridge, and only one of those is a few dollars.

Shops that run without a cover lens, or run a pitted one until the welder cannot see, destroy cartridges and then wonder why their consumable spend is high.

There is a quality argument too, and it is the one that persuades welders. A pitted lens scatters light. The welder cannot see the puddle's edge cleanly, and weld quality follows sight. A welder squinting through a damaged lens is producing worse work than they are capable of and they may not know why. The lens gets changed when it pits, not when it becomes unusable.

Polycarbonate is the correct material — the same impact resistance that makes it standard for face shields, in a plate that also has to survive spatter.

Confirm the lens fits your helmet. Cover lens sizes follow the shell and cartridge, and they are not interchangeable across models.
