Moldex MOX2300N95 Disposable Respirator Particulate Medium/Large Blue N95

The Moldex MOX2300N95 is a disposable N95 particulate respirator, medium/large, blue, dual non-adjustable headstraps, with a button-type exhalation valve, latex straps, blue straps, molded shape, 10 per box.

The exhalation valve is the specification and it is the most misunderstood feature in respiratory protection.

What it does: opens on exhale, letting breath out without passing it through the filter media. That reduces breathing resistance, cuts heat and moisture buildup inside the respirator, and makes the thing wearable for a full shift. For hot, exertive work, that is the difference between a respirator being worn and being pulled down.

What it does not do: filter what the wearer exhales. A valved respirator protects the wearer only. It provides no source control — anything the wearer breathes out goes straight into the room. That is why valved respirators are excluded from healthcare and from any situation where the concern runs outward rather than inward.

So the valve is a comfort feature with a directional consequence, and choosing on comfort alone is how they end up in the wrong place.

N95 means at least 95 percent particle capture, and the N means not resistant to oil — oil aerosols need R or P rated filters.

Note the latex straps: unusable for anyone with a latex sensitivity.

Fit is everything. A respirator that does not seal has no rating at all.
