The Loctite LOC88552 is Loctite PST 565 thread sealant, controlled strength, 250 ml tube.

At 250 ml this is the production tube of 565 — for a fabrication shop, an assembly line, or a plant piping crew rather than a service bench. The 50 ml tube in the same range is the bench size, and the distinction matters because anaerobic products have a shelf life. A large tube bought for occasional work gets thrown away part-full.

Controlled strength is the specification and it is what 565 is for. A pipe thread sealant must seal completely and still let the fitting come apart later. Too weak and it leaks; too strong and the next person to service the joint is applying heat to a fitting on a live system. Controlled strength gives a reliable seal that releases with ordinary wrenches.

PST means Pipe Sealant with Teflon. The argument against tape is the sales argument: PTFE tape shreds while being wrapped, and the fragments go downstream into valve seats, orifices, and control components. A liquid anaerobic has nothing to shred.

Tape is also a lubricant, which makes over-tightening easy — and over-tightening a tapered thread splits the female fitting.

The cure is anaerobic: liquid in air, solid when air is excluded and metal is present.
