The Loctite LOC88442 is Loctite 272 thread locker, high strength and high temperature, 50 ml bottle / 1.69 oz.

The high temperature designation is what separates 272 from the other red threadlockers, and it matters more than it sounds. Anaerobic threadlockers are cured polymers, and polymers soften and degrade with heat. That is precisely how a red threadlocker is deliberately removed — heat it and it lets go. Which means that in a joint that runs hot in normal service, an ordinary threadlocker is being un-cured every day it operates.

272 is formulated to hold at temperatures that would release a standard grade. That puts it on exhaust hardware, turbochargers, engine components, and process equipment where the fastener is hot and must not move.

Red is the strength code. Red means the joint is meant to stay assembled, and disassembly generally requires heat — which on a high-temperature grade means more heat than usual.

So the question before specifying is the same as for any red product: will this fastener ever need to come out, and with what tools? If the answer is hand tools, blue is correct.

The cure is anaerobic: liquid in air, solid when air is excluded and metal ions are present.

The 50 ml bottle is the standard working size.
