Loctite LOC231926 Thread Sealant # 262 thread locker Medium to high strength

The Loctite LOC231926 is Loctite 262 thread locker, medium to high strength, 10 ml bottle / 0.34 oz.

At 10 ml this is the smallest bottle of 262 in the range, and small is the sensible size for a red threadlocker in most toolboxes. Anaerobic products have a shelf life, and red threadlockers get used sparingly — a bottle bought for the occasional permanent fastener is thrown away part-full if it is too big. The 50 ml and 250 ml sizes exist for benches and production lines.

262 is red, and the colour is the specification. Red means high strength: a joint that is meant to stay assembled. Blue threadlockers release with hand tools. Red generally requires heat — typically to around 250°C — before the fastener will turn.

That makes the blue-versus-red choice a decision about the future rather than the present. If the fastener may need to come out with the tools available at the time, blue is correct. If it must not move, red is. Getting it wrong in the red direction means drilling a bolt out of an assembled machine.

262 sits at the moderate end of the red range — high strength without being described as permanent.

The cure is anaerobic: liquid in air, solid when air is excluded and metal ions are present.

Applications include machinery, automotive, and assembly.
