The Loctite LOC135504 is a Loctite 77BR silicone sealant, RTV silicone, 2.36 oz, ultra blue.

RTV means room temperature vulcanising — a silicone that cures at ambient conditions by reacting with atmospheric moisture, without heat or a catalyst being mixed in. That is the property that makes it a workshop material rather than a factory one.

What RTV silicone does that a rigid sealant cannot is move. A cured silicone gasket stays flexible and elastic across its life and across a wide temperature range, which means it accommodates the expansion, contraction, and vibration that flanges actually experience. A rigid sealant in the same joint cracks.

The colour is worth reading as a grade indicator rather than a preference. Silicone gasket makers are conventionally colour-coded by formulation and temperature range, and the colour is how a technician identifies which one they are looking at on a shelf. Verify the specific temperature and application range against the manufacturer's data rather than inferring it from colour alone.

One caution that belongs on any RTV used near engines: some formulations release acetic acid while curing, which attacks certain metals and is a problem in a closed system. Sensor-safe and oxygen-sensor-safe formulations exist for that reason.

Applications include flanges, covers, housings, and general gasketing.
