The hydraulic and pneumatic designation is the specification and it points at the reason this product exists rather than PTFE tape.

PTFE tape works, and it has a failure mode that matters enormously in a fluid system: it shreds. Wrapping a fitting produces tape fragments, and those fragments go downstream into the system — into valve seats, orifices, servo spools, and pilot passages, where a piece of tape the size of a grain of rice causes a fault that takes a day to find. Anyone who has torn down a hydraulic valve and found tape in it does not use tape again.
