DiversiTech Conduit BX Connector Set Scre PI312

The DiversiTech PI312 is a BX cable connector with set screw retention, used to terminate armored cable at boxes, enclosures, and equipment.

Set screw connectors clamp the cable armor with a threaded fastener rather than a squeeze clamp, providing straightforward and repeatable retention. The connector secures the cable mechanically so that pulling or vibration does not transfer stress to the conductor terminations inside the enclosure, and it shields the conductors from the cut end of the armor, which is sharp enough to abrade insulation over time.

That abrasion risk is the reason connectors and anti-short bushings exist. Armored cable that shifts against its own cut armor inside a vibrating equipment cabinet will eventually wear through insulation, producing a ground fault that appears long after installation and is difficult to trace.

In HVAC and refrigeration work, armored cable is used for equipment connections in commercial buildings, runs through finished spaces where raceway installation is impractical, and locations requiring mechanical protection with some flexibility.

Correct installation requires cutting the armor cleanly without nicking conductors, fitting an anti-short bushing where the cable type requires one, seating the connector fully into the box knockout, securing the locknut, and tightening the set screw firmly without deforming the armor.

Applications include commercial and institutional equipment wiring, mechanical room installations, panel and junction box terminations, and general electrical work where BX or armored cable is specified.
