DiversiTech 3/8 Lineset Cleaner Foam HLP038

The DiversiTech HLP038 is a foam line set cleaning puck sized for 3/8 inch tubing.

The 3/8 inch size typically serves as the liquid line on residential and light commercial split systems, and flushing it matters as much as flushing the suction line.

The liquid line carries refrigerant from the condenser to the metering device, and anything the line contributes travels directly to the metering device. A capillary tube, fixed orifice, or expansion valve has a very small passage, and debris arriving there restricts or blocks it.

The symptoms of a partially blocked metering device resemble undercharge closely: low suction pressure, high superheat, and reduced capacity. Technicians add refrigerant in response, which does not help, and the system may end up overcharged as well as restricted.

After a burnout, the liquid line also carries acid toward the metering device and the evaporator.

Flushing the liquid line and fitting a new filter drier are both part of a proper cleanup, and the drier is what catches whatever the flushing did not remove.

Where the line set cannot be flushed effectively, replacement is safer than accepting residual contamination, since the cost of a second compressor failure exceeds the cost of new tubing.

Confirm the puck size matches the tube bore, use a compatible flushing agent, and dry thoroughly with nitrogen before connecting the new equipment.
