Wesanco Strut Channel Deep 10 14GA Short Slot

The Wesanco W210EHPG10 is a ten foot length of 14 gauge deep profile strut channel with short slots.

Profile depth is the specification that determines how much load a strut section carries and how far it can span.

A deeper section has more material distributed away from its neutral axis, which is what gives a beam its stiffness. Doubling the depth of a section increases its bending strength considerably more than doubling its thickness would, which is why deep profiles are used for longer spans and heavier loads rather than simply using heavier gauge shallow channel.

Deep channel occupies more space, which is the trade off. In a congested ceiling void or against a wall with limited clearance, a shallow profile may be the only option, and the span then has to be reduced to compensate.

Slot pattern affects where fittings can be positioned. Short slot sections provide frequent fixing points while retaining more material than a continuously slotted section, which preserves strength.

Load tables published by the manufacturer give allowable loads against span for each profile, and working from those rather than from judgement is the correct approach on anything carrying meaningful weight.

Confirm profile depth, gauge, slot pattern, length, finish, and load capacity against the span and load. Verify the structural attachment at each support is rated for the reaction it carries.
