Uniweld Torch Accessory Gas Tank Adapter B F31

The Uniweld F31 is a gas tank adapter for B size fuel gas cylinders.

Cylinder valve connections vary by gas and by cylinder size, and adapters exist to allow equipment to be used across the range a technician encounters.

The important distinction is between adapters that connect equipment to a cylinder it was designed for and adapters that defeat the keying separating different gases.

The first is legitimate. A regulator suitable for a fuel gas being fitted to a different size cylinder of the same gas, using the manufacturer's adapter, is a normal arrangement.

The second is not. Fuel gas connections use left hand threads and oxygen connections use right hand threads specifically so that equipment for one cannot be fitted to the other. Adapting across that boundary removes a safety feature that exists because the consequences of cross connection are severe.

Pressure ratings must also be respected. Acetylene has a maximum working pressure well below what other fuel gases tolerate, and equipment used on acetylene must respect that limit regardless of what an adapter makes physically possible.

Any adapter introduces an additional connection, which is an additional leak point, and every connection must be leak tested with soap solution before lighting.

Confirm the adapter is intended for the gas and cylinder involved, that it is the manufacturer's specified component, and leak test all connections before use.
