The Harris 9101335 is a B-15-3HV mixer assembly for oxy fuel torch handles.

The mixer is the component in an oxy fuel torch where the two gases combine before reaching the tip, and its condition affects both flame quality and safety.

A correctly functioning mixer combines the gases in the proportion the tip requires, producing a stable flame that burns at the tip. Wear, contamination, or damage disturbs that, and the symptoms include a flame that is difficult to adjust, popping and backfiring, and in the worst case flashback where the flame travels back into the torch.

Backfire, where the flame goes out with a pop and may relight, indicates something is wrong and the torch should be shut down and investigated rather than simply relit. Common causes include a tip that has been overheated, a blocked or damaged tip orifice, incorrect working pressures, or the tip being touched against the work.

Flashback is more serious, with the flame burning back into the torch or hoses, and it can rupture a hose or regulator. Flashback arrestors are fitted to prevent it reaching that far.

Cleanliness is essential throughout oxy fuel equipment, and oil or grease anywhere in the oxygen path is a serious hazard.
