System Sensor Duct Smoke Detector Signaling Strobe

The System Sensor RTS2-AOS is a remote test station with audible and visual signalling for duct smoke detectors.

Duct smoke detectors are installed in ductwork, frequently above ceilings, in mechanical rooms, or on rooftops, where they are neither visible nor conveniently accessible. This creates two practical problems that a remote test station resolves.

The first is testing. Fire code requires duct detectors to be tested periodically, and reaching a detector above a ceiling or on a roof to do so is time consuming. A remote test station permits the test to be initiated from an accessible location.

The second is indication. When a duct detector alarms, the air handler shuts down, and building staff are confronted with a system that has stopped for no visible reason. Without indication, the cause may not be identified quickly, and the temptation to simply restart the equipment is considerable. A remote station with visual and audible signalling makes the detector's state apparent and identifies which detector has operated where several are installed.

The station must be located where it is accessible and visible to those responsible for the building, and labelled to identify the detector it serves.
