Supco Sealant Red Epoxy Metal 12001 HS12001

The Supco 12001 is a red metal epoxy used for repairs and bonding on metal components.

Metal filled epoxies bond and fill where welding or brazing is impractical, and they have a place in equipment repair provided their limitations are understood.

Legitimate applications include repairing damaged threads in a casting, filling a corroded area on a non pressure component, bonding a bracket or fitting that has come loose, and rebuilding a worn surface where precision is not critical.

What epoxy should not be used for is a pressure containing repair on a refrigerant circuit. A refrigerant system operates at pressures well above atmospheric, cycles thermally, and vibrates, and an epoxy patch on a pressurised line is a failure waiting to happen. The failure releases the charge and may do so violently.

Structural repairs where failure would cause injury are similarly inappropriate.

Surface preparation determines whether an epoxy repair holds at all. The surface must be clean, dry, free of oil, and abraded to give the adhesive mechanical key. Epoxy applied to a smooth or contaminated surface releases.

Cure time and temperature affect the final strength, and a repair loaded before full cure will not reach its rated properties.

Confirm the product suits the materials, temperature range, and chemical exposure involved, prepare the surface thoroughly, and do not use it for pressure containing refrigerant repairs.
