Supco Sealant Leak Lock Joint 10004 HS10004

The Supco 10004 Leak Lock is a joint sealing compound applied to threaded connections and joints.

Thread sealing compounds fill the helical gap that remains between mating tapered threads. A tapered thread seals by wedging, but the thread form leaves a spiral path along the root that is a leak path without a sealant.

Product selection has to match the service. A compound suitable for refrigerant service must resist the refrigerant and lubricant it contacts, tolerate the temperature range, and remain effective through thermal cycling. A compound suitable for fuel gas must be approved for gas service, and gas approvals are specific.

Using a general purpose product on a gas connection is not acceptable, and using a product not rated for refrigerants on a refrigerant joint risks the compound degrading and contaminating the circuit.

Application technique matters. Compound goes on the male thread only, starting a thread or two back from the end so that it is not pushed into the bore where it can circulate. Applying to the female thread pushes material inward.

Quantity should be sufficient to fill the thread without excess extruding into the pipe.

Sealant does not belong on flare or compression sealing surfaces, which seal metal to metal.

Confirm the compound is approved for the service, the fluids involved, and the temperature range, and allow any specified cure before pressurising.
