The Refrigeration Technologies RT175B is a brush on leak sealing compound for external application to joints and connections.

Brush on sealants of this type are applied externally to a joint that is leaking slightly, forming a flexible film over the surface. They are distinct from sealants injected into a refrigerant circuit, which are a different product with different considerations.

The honest position on external leak sealants is that they are a temporary measure. A leaking joint is leaking because something is wrong with it: a poorly made flare, a brazed joint with incomplete penetration, a degraded seal, or corrosion. Coating the outside does not correct any of those.

There are situations where a temporary measure has genuine value. Getting a system through to a scheduled shutdown, maintaining service to a critical load until parts arrive, or holding a system over a weekend are all legitimate.

What matters is that the temporary nature is understood and the permanent repair is scheduled rather than forgotten, and that the customer is told what has been done.

A coating applied over an active leak on a system that continues to lose charge also conceals the evidence, making the eventual diagnosis harder.

Confirm compatibility with the refrigerant, lubricant, and materials involved, apply to a clean dry surface, and plan the permanent repair.
