Rayovac ROVALAAA-24 Ray-o-VAC Battery Alkaline AAA

The Rayovac ROVALAAA-24 is a AAA alkaline battery, 24 per pack.

The 24 pack is the specification worth commenting on, because AAA cells are consumed in a way that makes bulk purchasing genuinely sensible rather than merely cheaper.

AAA is the format for the things that are always dead when needed: pen lights, inspection lights, laser levels, remotes, and small instruments. Every one of them is picked up in the moment it is needed, which is exactly when nobody is going to the store. A drawer with 24 cells in it means the light works.

Alkaline is the chemistry and the trade is worth knowing. Alkaline cells have good shelf life and good capacity, and they are poor at high current draw — a bright LED light will flatten them faster than the capacity suggests, because alkaline chemistry sags under load. Lithium primaries cost more and hold voltage better under drain and in cold.

The failure mode worth stating: alkaline cells leak when fully discharged and left in place. The electrolyte is corrosive and it destroys contacts, and the device it ruins is worth many times the cells. Take flat cells out.

Store at moderate temperature. Heat shortens shelf life.

Applications include pen lights, instruments, and small electronics.
