NAVAC Thermometer Bluetooth Temperature Clamp

The NAVAC NST1 is a Bluetooth temperature clamp for refrigeration line measurement.

A clamp style temperature probe addresses the principal difficulty in refrigeration temperature measurement: getting reliable thermal contact with a pipe.

The clamp holds the sensing element in firm contact with the pipe surface and, on well designed probes, shields it from ambient air. Both are necessary. A probe merely touching a pipe reads a blend of pipe and air temperature, and on a suction line in warm ambient conditions the error can be several degrees, which is enough to change a superheat calculation materially.

The pipe surface should be clean where the clamp attaches, since oxide and dirt insulate.

Wireless transmission allows several probes to be placed, on the suction line, the liquid line, and in the airstreams, and read together with pressure data in one application, which is where the value of the system lies. Superheat and subcooling are computed continuously rather than calculated once from a set of readings taken at slightly different times.

Applications include refrigeration and air conditioning diagnosis, charging, and commissioning.
