Product Highlights
Description
The CPS MT69 is a submersible thermometer for subcooling measurement.
Accurate temperature measurement is the half of refrigeration diagnosis that receives least attention, and poor temperature readings undermine otherwise correct procedure.
Superheat and subcooling are both differences between a saturation temperature derived from pressure and an actual measured line temperature. An error in the temperature measurement translates directly into an error in the calculated figure, and a few degrees is enough to change a diagnosis.
The common sources of error are all avoidable. An infrared thermometer aimed at bare copper reads unreliably because polished metal has low emissivity. A contact probe held against a line without insulation reads partly the ambient air. A probe attached to a line that has not been cleaned reads through oxide and dirt.
Proper practice is a probe clamped in firm contact with clean pipe, insulated from ambient air, and given time to stabilise.
The difference between careful and casual temperature measurement is frequently the difference between diagnosing a system correctly and adding refrigerant to one that did not need it.
Applications include refrigeration and air conditioning diagnosis, charging, and service.
