Mars Heating Element 5KW 480V Restring Kit 3/8

The Mars M34604 is a 5 kilowatt, 480 volt electric heating element restring kit with 3/8 inch insulators, intended as a field replacement for the open resistance coil in commercial electric heat sections.

Restring kits supply the nichrome coil and installation hardware, not a complete heater rack. Where the failure is confined to a burned open coil and the frame, ceramic insulators, sequencer, and safety limits are undamaged, restringing returns the heater to service quickly and at a fraction of the cost of a complete assembly, which is often a long lead time item.

At 5 kW on 480 volts the element draws approximately 10.4 amps, roughly half the current of the equivalent 240 volt element. The lower current is why 480 volt heat is favoured in larger commercial installations, since conductor and overcurrent device sizing become considerably more economical across multiple stages.

The 3/8 inch insulator specification determines physical fit. Coil diameter, stretched length, and insulator bore must match the original, since a coil that does not seat properly will sag, contact the frame, and fail early or ground out.

Diagnose the cause of the original failure before restringing. Insufficient airflow is the dominant reason open coil elements burn out, and the replacement will fail identically if airflow is not corrected.

Applications include commercial electric duct heaters, air handlers, rooftop unit heat sections, and make-up air units on 480 volt service.
