Mars Heating Element 5KW 277V Restring Kit 3/8

The Mars M34606 is a 5 kilowatt, 277 volt electric heating element restring kit with 3/8 inch insulators, supplied as a replacement coil for electric duct heaters and air handler heat sections operating on 277 volt single phase.

277 volts is the line to neutral voltage derived from a 480/277 volt three phase wye system, and is widely used in commercial buildings for lighting and single phase heat. Heating elements are voltage specific: installing a 240 volt element on 277 volts will overheat and shorten its life dramatically, while a 480 volt element on 277 volts will produce roughly a third of its rated output. Confirming the nameplate voltage of the heater before ordering is therefore essential.

At 5 kW on 277 volts, this element draws approximately 18 amps.

The kit supplies the nichrome resistance coil and mounting hardware for reinstallation on the existing rack. Where the frame, ceramic insulators, sequencer, and limit devices remain sound, restringing is markedly faster and less expensive than sourcing a complete heater assembly.

Determine why the original coil opened before fitting the replacement. Restricted airflow from loaded filters, dirty coils, closed dampers, or a failing blower is the usual cause of an open element, and the new coil will fail the same way if the underlying restriction remains.
