The Mars 34610 is a 3500 watt, 480 volt electric heating element restring kit supplied as a field replacement for the resistance coil in electric furnaces, duct heaters, and air handler heat sections.
A restring kit differs from a complete heater assembly. Rather than replacing the entire heater rack with its frame, insulators, limits, and sequencer, the kit supplies the nichrome resistance coil itself along with the hardware needed to reinstall it on the existing frame. Where the failure is a burned open coil and the balance of the assembly is sound, restringing returns the heater to service at a fraction of the cost of a full assembly and avoids the lead time associated with a complete unit.
Open coil elements fail predictably. Restricted airflow from a loaded filter, a failed blower, or closed dampers allows the coil to run above its design temperature until a section thins and opens. For that reason a restring should always be accompanied by an airflow investigation, or the replacement coil will fail the same way.
At 3500 watts on 480 volts, this element draws approximately 7.3 amps and suits commercial electric duct heaters and air handlers on 480 volt three phase service.
Applications include commercial electric furnaces, duct heaters, air handlers, and rooftop unit heat sections. Verify voltage, wattage, coil length, and insulator spacing against the original before installation, and confirm the limit and fusible link devices operate correctly before returning the equipment to service.
