The Mars 86129 is a 50 pack of 48 inch cable ties used for bundling and securing cable, tubing, and components.

Cable ties are used everywhere in this trade and misused in a few consistent ways worth noting.

Overtightening is the first. A tie drawn up hard onto insulated cable compresses the insulation, and on soft tubing it can restrict flow or eventually cut through. The tie should hold the bundle without deforming what it holds.

Using ties as load supports is the second. A cable tie is a bundling device, not a hanger. Refrigerant lines, conduit, and cable runs supported on ties rather than proper hangers will eventually fail, since the tie material creeps under sustained load and degrades with temperature and ultraviolet exposure.

Material selection is the third. Standard nylon ties degrade in sunlight and become brittle within a season or two outdoors. Ultraviolet stabilised ties, usually black, are required for exposed locations. Temperature also matters, and ties near hot surfaces need a suitable rating.

The cut end is the fourth. A tie trimmed with side cutters leaves a sharp edge at exactly hand height in many installations, and flush cutting or turning the tail away prevents the lacerations that result.
