DiversiTech Duct Strap Woven 3IN 710-103

The DiversiTech 710-103 is a three inch woven duct strap used for supporting and hanging ductwork.

Duct support is governed by codes and by the standards published by the sheet metal industry, and both specify support spacing, strap width, and attachment methods against duct size and material.

The reason for the detail is that duct is a large, light, and relatively weak structure. It has little inherent stiffness across its span, and a run supported at inadequate intervals sags between hangers. A sagging duct looks poor, but more importantly it opens joints, and open joints leak.

Flexible duct is worse in this respect than rigid, since it deforms readily and a sag becomes a restriction as well as a leak point. A flexible run allowed to droop between supports can lose a substantial fraction of its airflow capacity.

Strap width matters because a narrow strap concentrates load and can cut into the duct, particularly on insulated or flexible duct. Wider straps distribute the load.

Attachment at the structure end has to be adequate for the load, and screws driven into the underside of a ceiling deck are not always suitable.

Confirm strap width, material, and load capacity against the duct size and weight, and follow the spacing requirements for the duct type and dimension.
