DiversiTech Hanging Strap HS-30-2

The DiversiTech HS-30-2 is a hanging strap used to support ductwork, piping, and equipment from building structure.

The failure mode worth thinking about with hanging straps is not the strap breaking. It is the attachment at one end or the other letting go.

At the structure end, the fixing has to be appropriate for what it is fixed to. A screw into a timber joist, an anchor into concrete, a beam clamp onto steel, and a fixing into a metal deck all have different capacities, and the capacity of the assembly is that of its weakest element.

Fixings into ceiling deck are a recurring problem, since thin metal deck offers limited holding and the load may be applied at an angle rather than straight down.

At the load end, the strap has to engage the duct or pipe without cutting into it and without allowing it to slip.

Load also has to account for more than the static weight. Duct filled with dust, pipe full of water, and any equipment mounted in the run all add to it, and lines that will be walked on or used as handholds during construction see loads well beyond design.

Confirm strap material, width, and capacity against the load, and verify the structural attachment is appropriate for the substrate and rated for the load applied.
