The Harris 4400083 is an Inferno air fuel kit for brazing and soldering applications.

Air fuel torch outfits burn a fuel gas with ambient air rather than with supplied oxygen, and they occupy a useful position in the range of heating equipment.

The advantages are practical. A single cylinder rather than two, considerably less equipment to transport, no oxygen cylinder with its associated hazards and handling requirements, and lower cost.

For soldering copper and for brazing smaller tube sizes, air fuel equipment is adequate and is what most technicians use for routine work.

The limitation is heat input. An air fuel flame delivers less heat than an oxygen fuel flame, and above a certain tube size it cannot raise the joint to brazing temperature faster than the copper conducts heat away. The joint then never reaches temperature no matter how long the flame is applied.

The point at which this occurs depends on the fuel gas, the tip size, the tube size and wall thickness, and the ambient conditions. Working outdoors in cold weather shifts it downward noticeably.

Recognising when air fuel is insufficient, rather than persisting and producing a poor joint, is the practical skill.
