Harris Fuel Gas Cylinder Inferno® MC Tank 4400088

The Harris 4400088 is an Inferno MC size fuel gas cylinder for air fuel torch equipment.

Cylinder size designations in the fuel gas range follow a lettering convention, with MC and B being the common small sizes used with portable torch outfits.

The MC size is the smaller of the two, which makes an outfit lighter and more portable at the cost of shorter running time before a change is needed.

Selecting between them depends on the work. A technician doing occasional small brazing jobs benefits from the lighter outfit. One doing sustained brazing work will change cylinders frequently with the smaller size and is better served by the larger.

Acetylene cylinders in particular have a further consideration. Acetylene is dissolved in acetone within a porous filler inside the cylinder, and drawing gas too rapidly can pull acetone out with it, which damages equipment and produces a poor flame. There is a maximum withdrawal rate related to cylinder size, and a small cylinder has a correspondingly low limit.

For that reason acetylene cylinders must also be used and stored upright, since the acetone can otherwise escape.

Cylinders must be secured, kept away from heat, fitted with valve protection where provided, and never refilled if they are disposable.

Confirm the cylinder type and connection match the equipment, and leak test connections before lighting.
