DiversiTech 1/4" Pan Anchor 7102CX

The DiversiTech 7102CX is a 1/4 inch pan head masonry anchor for fastening equipment to concrete, block, and brick.

Load capacity is where anchor selection is most often approached casually, and it deserves more attention than it usually gets.

Published anchor capacities are given for a specified base material, embedment depth, edge distance, and spacing, and every one of those conditions affects the figure. The same anchor in solid concrete and in hollow block performs very differently, and hollow block in particular gives far lower capacity because the anchor may be engaging only a thin face shell.

Loads must also be considered in the right directions. Tension pulls the anchor out of the base material; shear acts across it. Most published data gives both, and equipment mounted on a wall commonly applies both simultaneously.

A safety factor applies on top of published ultimate capacities, and the design load should be a fraction of the tested figure rather than close to it.

For HVAC work the loads worth thinking about include the operating weight of wall mounted equipment, dynamic loads from compressors starting and running, and in some regions wind or seismic requirements.

Where the base material is uncertain, of unknown condition, or hollow, an anchor type suited to that condition should be selected rather than assuming a solid substrate.
