Product Highlights
Description
The DiversiTech 7102HCX is a 1/4 inch hex head masonry anchor for fastening to concrete, block, and brick.
Base material assessment should precede anchor selection, and it is often possible to establish more than is assumed.
Drilling gives useful information. Solid concrete resists steadily and produces fine grey dust. Hollow block gives resistance at the face shell, then the bit breaks through into a void. Brick drills more easily than concrete and produces reddish dust. Mortar joints drill very easily and are generally a poor location for an anchor, since mortar is weaker than the units either side of it and the joint may not be fully filled.
Old, deteriorated, or spalled masonry may not hold an anchor at all regardless of the anchor's rating, and drilling into it produces crumbling rather than clean cutting.
Where a void is encountered, an anchor designed for hollow base materials should be used, since a threaded anchor that engages only a thin face shell has very little capacity.
Repositioning slightly to find sound material is usually better than proceeding with a marginal fixing, and on a critical fixing a pull test is the only way to know.
Confirm anchor diameter, length, embedment, matched hole size, and base material suitability against the manufacturer's data. Clear the hole before setting and drive until the head seats without over driving.
