A belly band clamps around the motor's cylindrical body and carries mounting arms that bolt to the equipment. It is the standard mounting arrangement for direct-drive HVAC blower and fan motors, and it exists because it accommodates variation: motors from different manufacturers with the same frame diameter can be mounted in the same equipment even if their end bell bolt patterns differ.

The band also sets the motor's axial position, which determines where the blower wheel or fan blade sits relative to the housing inlet or discharge orifice. Position affects airflow directly, so the band should be set to reproduce the original position rather than clamped wherever it happens to sit.

Replacement bands are needed when the original is corroded, distorted, or when a replacement motor is supplied without one.
