Zebra Instruments ECM142 Signal Select UZHME

The Zebra Instruments UZHME is a signal selection accessory for ECM142 series and comparable electronically commutated blower motors, providing control of the motor's speed inputs during diagnosis and installation.

The diagnostic value of a device like this lies in isolating the two halves of an ECM system. An electronically commutated motor will not run without both line voltage and a valid low-voltage speed command, and when a blower fails to operate the question is which of those is missing. Applying a known good command directly at the motor answers it immediately.

If the motor runs on the applied command, the motor and its control module are functioning and attention moves to the equipment control board, the thermostat wiring, or the low-voltage supply. If it does not, the motor or module is at fault.

Without this step, the usual alternative is to replace the motor and discover the board was the problem, which is an expensive way to reach the same conclusion.

Confirm compatibility with the specific motor series before ordering. Isolate the equipment before making connections, and allow the motor's internal capacitors time to discharge before handling the motor connector.
