The Ullman ULLHTE-2 is a telescoping inspection mirror, round, 1-1/4 inch diameter, 9-5/8 inch to 36-3/8 inch, with a cushioned vinyl grip and pocket clip.

At 1-1/4 inches this is the small mirror in the range, and small is the entire specification.

The reason to buy it is access. Inspection mirrors are used in gaps, and the gaps that matter are the ones a hand cannot enter — behind a manifold, between a bulkhead and a component, into a slot, past a bracket. A 3-1/4 inch mirror will not go through most of them. A 1-1/4 inch mirror will.

What it costs is field of view. A small mirror shows a small area, which means finding something takes sweeping rather than looking. That is fine when the target is known — confirming a part number, checking a fitting, seeing whether a fastener is present — and frustrating when the job is a search.

So a shop carries more than one size for the same reason it carries more than one wrench.

The cushioned grip matters more than it sounds on a tool that gets used at awkward angles for extended periods.
