The Ullman ULLHT2 is a telescoping magnetic pick-up tool, 5 lb load capacity, 1/2 inch diameter, 7-1/4 inch to 33-3/4 inch, stainless steel handle, neodymium-iron-boron high flux magnet, with a pocket clip.

The telescoping range is the specification and the ratio is the point: this extends to nearly five times its collapsed length.

That matters because the two ends of the range serve different needs. Collapsed at 7-1/4 inches it goes in a pocket, which is the only way a tool like this is ever available when it is needed — a dropped bolt does not wait while somebody walks to the van. Extended to 33-3/4 inches it reaches to the bottom of an engine bay, down a frame rail, or into a machine.

A fixed-length tool does one or the other.

The honest limit on any telescoping magnetic tool: the extended shaft is thin and it flexes. At full extension, with five pounds on the end, it is not a rigid tool — the load rating is what the magnet will hold, not what the shaft will manoeuvre.

Neodymium is the magnet and it carries a real caution. These are strong enough to interfere with pacemakers and implanted defibrillators at close range, and a pocket clip puts one inside the published separation distances. Anyone with an implanted device should not carry one in a shirt pocket.
