Owens Corning Ductboard 2" Unboxed Owens 441745

The Owens Corning 441745 is a 2 inch thick fiberglass duct board panel, 48 by 120 inches, supplied unboxed.

At 2 inches this is the thickest board in the range and provides the highest thermal resistance and the greatest acoustic absorption. It is specified where energy code requirements for duct in unconditioned space are more stringent, in climates with severe design conditions, and in applications where duct borne noise must be controlled, such as plenums close to occupied rooms, systems with high external static pressure, or installations where the equipment sits near bedrooms.

The acoustic benefit deserves emphasis because it is the reason duct board is often chosen over sheet metal even where thermal requirements could be met either way. Sheet metal reflects and transmits blower noise; a fiberglass board plenum absorbs it at the source. In practice a duct board supply plenum is noticeably quieter than a bare metal one on the same equipment.

The trade-off with 2 inch board is bulk. Fabrication requires the grooving tools to be set for the greater thickness, folded corners are heavier, and the finished duct occupies more space, which can matter in a tight attic or a joist bay.

Handle and store panels flat and dry, protect the foil facing, and seal every closure and seam thoroughly.

Applications include residential and light commercial duct and plenum fabrication where thermal or acoustic performance is a priority.
