Nidec/Emerson Motor 1/4-1/8 HP 1874H

The Nidec/Emerson 1874H is a multi-horsepower motor covering 1/4 to 1/8 horsepower for fan and blower applications in HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

Ambient temperature rating is one of the specifications that distinguishes otherwise similar motors. A motor rated for a higher ambient can operate in a hotter environment before its winding temperature reaches the insulation limit, which matters for motors mounted in condensing unit electrical compartments, above condenser coils, in rooftop equipment, and in any enclosure where the surrounding air is warmer than the outdoor conditions.

Substituting a motor with a lower ambient rating into such a position produces a motor that works and then fails early, with no obvious cause at the point of installation. The rating appears on the nameplate and should be compared when a replacement is not an exact equivalent.

The multi-horsepower winding allows this motor to cover two OEM ratings by tap selection.

The motor requires a correctly rated run capacitor, permanently connected.

Confirm the horsepower range covers the original, and verify RPM, voltage, rotation, frame diameter, shaft diameter and length, mounting arrangement, ambient rating, and capacitor value before ordering.
