NAVAC Flaring Tool 3/4" Max OD 6 NTF66

The NAVAC NTF66 is a flaring tool with a 3/4 inch maximum outside diameter capacity for forming 45 degree flares on copper tubing.

Eccentric and clutch type flaring tools produce more consistent results than basic bar and yoke designs, and the reason is worth understanding.

A basic flaring tool relies on the operator to judge when the flare is fully formed. Too little and the flare is undersized and will not seal across its full face. Too much and the tube is overworked, thinning the flare and sometimes cracking it.

A clutch mechanism releases at the point the flare is complete, removing the judgement and producing the same result every time regardless of who is operating it.

Consistency matters most on ductless installation, where a system may have eight flare joints and every one of them must seal. The probability of a leak somewhere in the system is the accumulation of the risk at each joint, so reducing variation at every joint has a compounding effect.

Flare quality should still be inspected visually, since a tool cannot compensate for a tube that was cut poorly or a sealing face that was contaminated.

Confirm the tool covers the tube sizes required, that the dies suit the tube material, and keep the cone clean and lightly lubricated. Fit the flare nut before flaring, and torque flare connections to the equipment manufacturer's specification.
