DiversiTech Flaring 6 Piece Set SPINF6000

The DiversiTech SPINF6000 is a six piece flaring tool set used to form 45 degree flares on soft copper tubing.

A flare joint seals metal to metal between the flared tube end and the fitting seat, compressed by a flare nut. When it is made properly it is a reliable, serviceable connection that can be broken and remade, which is why it is standard on ductless equipment and on service connections.

When it is made poorly it leaks, and flare joints are the leading source of refrigerant loss on ductless installations.

The requirements for a sound flare are specific. The tube must be cut square and deburred, inside and out. The flare nut must be placed on the tube before flaring, which is forgotten often enough to be worth stating. The tube must be clamped at the correct projection above the bar, since too little gives an undersized flare that pulls through and too much gives an oversized one that will not fit the nut. And the flare must be formed smoothly, without cracking or scoring the sealing face.

The finished flare should be inspected. A crack, a split edge, or an uneven face means cutting it off and starting again rather than hoping it seals.

Confirm the set covers the tube sizes required, keep the cone and bar surfaces clean, and lubricate the cone lightly as the manufacturer recommends.
