Mars SPST 24V Relay M92290

The Mars M92290 is a single pole single throw relay with a 24 volt coil.

Single pole single throw is the simplest contact arrangement: one circuit, either open or closed, with no alternate contact.

Its simplicity is its merit. Where a control scheme requires only that a circuit be made or broken by a coil signal, an SPST relay does that with the fewest terminals and the least opportunity for wiring confusion.

Common applications include energising an accessory when equipment runs, providing an additional switched output where a control board has none available, and isolating a control signal from the circuit it operates.

A point worth noting about relays generally is the difference between a relay and a contactor when selecting for a given load. Relays are built for control circuits and light loads; contactors for motor and power loads with the contact material and arc handling that implies. The failure that results from using a relay where a contactor belongs is welded contacts, which on a control circuit means equipment that runs continuously and cannot be stopped by its controls.
