The Mars M10730 is a 1/2 horsepower, 208-230 volt, 1075 RPM motor for fan and blower applications in HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

Insulation class is a specification that rarely appears in a conversation about motor selection but determines how much thermal margin the motor has. The class defines the maximum winding temperature the insulation system can sustain over its design life, and a motor operating consistently above that temperature loses insulation life at an accelerating rate.

This is the mechanism behind the general rule that motor life halves for every ten degrees Celsius of sustained overtemperature. It is also why airflow restriction, high ambient temperature, and low supply voltage all shorten motor life even when none of them causes an immediate fault: each raises winding temperature, and the damage accumulates silently.

Where a motor has failed with discoloured or embrittled windings, the cause is thermal, and finding the source of the heat is more useful than simply fitting a replacement.

The motor requires a permanently connected run capacitor of the specified value.
