The Marathon M4688BELT is a 1 horsepower, 1725 RPM motor rated for 115 and 230 volt operation, supplied for belt drive applications in air handling and general equipment.

Belt drive arrangements remain common in commercial air handlers, large blowers, and older equipment, and they offer a capability direct drive does not: airflow can be adjusted by changing the pulley ratio, without changing the motor. That makes belt drive systems straightforward to commission and to rebalance if the duct system is modified.

The 1725 RPM rating is the standard four-pole speed for belt drive service, with the driven blower running at whatever speed the sheave ratio produces.

Belt drive installations impose side load on the motor bearings, so bearing condition, belt tension, and sheave alignment all affect motor life. A belt tensioned too tightly overloads the bearings; too loosely it slips, generates heat, and wears rapidly. Misaligned sheaves destroy belts quickly and load the bearings unevenly.
