Description
The Lau 60765802 is a fan blade hub with a 5/16 inch bore, supplied to adapt a propeller fan blade to a motor shaft of that diameter.
A hub is the component that transfers torque from the motor shaft to the blade. It sits at the centre of the blade, is secured to the shaft by one or more set screws, and carries the blade's mounting rivets or fixings. On many replacement blades the hub is a separate part specifically so that one blade design can be supplied for several shaft sizes.
Bore diameter must match the motor shaft exactly. A hub bored oversize will not be held securely by the set screw, will creep on the shaft under the cyclic load of a rotating fan, and will eventually wallow the bore, damage the shaft, and allow the blade to shift.
The set screw must bear on the shaft flat rather than on the round surface. A screw tightened onto a round shaft relies on friction alone and will loosen.
Confirm the motor shaft diameter, the presence and position of the shaft flat, and the hub's compatibility with the blade before ordering.
